There are over 3000 free extensions on JED and if you google 'free joomla templates', you'll find links full of decent quality cost-free Joomla templates; now if you are one of those developers who designs such products, here are some ways you can monetize them.

a) Affiliate programs: If you're making tech for webmasters, I'm sure you're already aware of affiliate programs. I would say 80% of the Joomla commercial developers have an affiliate program which means that if you push your website visitors to them, you earn a good chunk of that sale. If you're interested in joining such programs, go to your favorite commercial developers website and find a link to their affiliate link.

Joomla! is a global, non profit, Open Source project working with only volunteers and their contributions. Volunteers are key to our growth and success. Contributing to Joomla! is easy and will give you great satisfaction. Anyone can contribute, whatever your skillset is, with as much time as you want. It’s also a great way to give back to your beloved CMS.

Part of our companies' success is due to the fact that we use Joomla. We can develop good websites with a versatile CMS that is freely available. That is my reason to contribute to Joomla, give something back. -- René Kreijveld

You gain a global network full of people who have a passion for Joomla! just like yourself. People who become friends, co-workers, co-volunteers,... You’re able to attend great events around the world.

Since version 1.5, the Joomla CMS contains a Gmail authentication plugin. Its main purpose was to illustrate how you can build a Joomla authentication plugin for an external service with a ‘real world’ example. The web has changed dramatically since then, but not this plugin. The technique the plugin is using is not anymore state of the art and less secure.

The Joomla Project is delighted to announce that CloudAccess.net has been selected as the new provider for our demo and free for life website service. CloudAccessnet has a long standing relationship with the Joomla Project and has historically provided demo site services in the past.

During the migration period, new demo signups and .com signups will be temporarily frozen until the new system is in place.  All current users will be notified of the migration options available to them by email.

These are the steps to be taken.

**Caution: Please ensure that your host has a PHP 5.3 and above***. You can see the PHP version in the cpanel of your website. Joomla 3.x runs only on PHP 5.3 and above.
Let’s assume your website name is www.SpringWebHost.com, and the Username of the cpanel is springwe.

1) Create a database called “joomxyz”. Note as soon as “joomxyz” is created, it carries the username of the cpanel as a prefix ie “springwe_joomxyz” as shown below:

2) Create a User called “trak” with a password: xxx123A. This user becomes “springwe_trak”.

With the prospect of Joomla 4 next year we would like to raise awareness on the must of upgrading to PHP 7.

Joomla 4 will require PHP 7 to run. Most hosts already offer PHP 7 in their packages and it should be fairly easy to change your PHP version. (Hint: before you do, make sure you backup) If not, contact your host today.

Let us give you 4 reasons why you shouldn’t wait on upgrading PHP.

PHP 7 is better

Easy to say of course, but PHP 7 actually has a performance improvement that makes your website run twice as fast (compared to PHP 5) and it has a 50% better memory consumption. Of course PHP 7 is also more secure and allows you to do more as a developer.

  1. Download the Joomla! 3.x full package at http://www.joomla.org/download.html
  2. The file is compressed (zipped) so you need extracting software like WinRar to extract the file to a folder. Let’s name this folder as “JoomlaTraining”. This means all the Joomla files will be inside the JoomlaTraining Folder.
  3. Next, you will copy the “JoomlaTraining” folder to the subfolder called “www” in your AMPPS folder. By default, AMPPS would be installed to your C:\Program Files. Please always ensure that AMPPS is always installed in this path. C:\Program Files. This means the “JoomlaTraining” will be in this path. C:\Program Files\Ampps\www\JoomlaTraining.
  4. Type http://localhost/ into your browser. The below image will appear.

  5. Click: “JoomlaTraining” and the image below will appear.
